Most of the expensive water damage we get called to was not caused by a dramatic failure. It was a supply line, a water heater or a toilet that let go while nobody was in the house, and ran for hours.
An automatic shut-off valve installs on your main water line and monitors flow. When it sees a pattern that should not be happening, water running continuously for far longer than any normal use, it closes the valve and alerts your phone. That turns a ruined floor into a repair.

StreamLabs Control
StreamLabs Control is the automatic shut-off valve we install most. It fits on the main line, monitors the water going into the house, and closes automatically when it detects a leak. It connects to Wi-Fi and sends alerts to your phone, and you can shut the water off yourself from the app from anywhere.
Because it measures flow through the main, it also shows you what the house is actually using, which is how a slow leak gets caught long before it shows up as a stain on a ceiling.
StreamLabs also makes monitoring-only devices that alert you without closing a valve. Those are cheaper and easier to fit, but they only tell you. If nobody is home to act on the alert, only a valve stops the water.
What the install involves
The valve goes on the main line, so the job depends on where your main is and whether there is power and a usable Wi-Fi signal at that spot. In this area the main is often in a crawl space or on an outside wall. We look at the location first and tell you what it will take before you commit to anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it shut the water off while I am using it normally?
No. It is looking for water running continuously for far longer than normal household use. We test it with you before we leave and set it to how your house actually runs.
Does it need Wi-Fi?
For alerts and app control, yes. We check the signal at your main line before installing, because a valve in a crawl space with no signal is not much use.
Can I shut my water off from my phone?
Yes. That is one of the main reasons people put one in. You can close the main from anywhere.
Is a leak monitor the same thing?
No. A monitor tells you there is a leak. A valve stops the water. If the house is empty when the leak starts, only the valve helps you.
Where does it get installed?
On the main water line coming into the house. Where that is, and whether there is power and signal there, decides how big the job is. We look before quoting.
